MLB: Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees

About Last Night: Dingers!

Okay, so can we talk about what happened on Friday night? Because I am still in shock. Since these pieces are not full game recaps, I won’t go into every detail about the game. So how about we take a look at all of the dingers the Yankees hit in their improbable 14-11 extra innings win over the Orioles? Sound fun? Good.

First dinger: Aaron Judge in the fifth inning off Kevin Gausman on a 95.6 mph four-seamer (417 feet, 113.5 mph exit velocity)

It was Judge’s ninth home run of the year which was followed by…

Second dinger: Aaron Judge in the sixth inning off Kevin Gausman on a 97.0 mph four-seamer (435 feet, 119.5 mph exit velocity)

Judge’s second home run of the night and, according to Statcast, the hardest hit ball since they started keeping track of exit velocity. What Judge is doing right now is a lot of fun to watch.

Third dinger: Jacoby Ellsbury in the seventh inning off Vidal Nuńo on a 92.2 four-seamer (420 feet, 108.4 mph exit velocity)

This was a big home run for Ellsbury for two reasons: It was his first-career grand slam and it was the 100th home run of his career.

Fourth: Starlin Castro in the ninth inning off Brad Brach on a 94.9 four-seamer (404 feet, 102.2 mph exit velocity)

Another one that wasn’t a cheap shot. It was Castro’s fifth home run of the season and it completed the improbable comeback.

Fifth and final dinger: Matt Holliday in the tenth inning off Jayson Aquino on an 80.1 mph changeup (411 feet, 103.7 mph exit velocity)

Holliday walked off a hero in his first “big” Yankee moment. He told Meredith Marakovitz after the game

The game looked lost when the Yankees were down 9-1 in the sixth inning, and 11-4 in the seventh but they never gave up, and sent the fans home happy with a walk-off victory and shocked the hell out of the Orioles.
