For a sixth straight outing, Nathan Eovaldi simply just did not have it.
The Yankees righty failed to make it out of the fifth inning, allowing six earned runs in San Diego and losing his fourth straight game by a score of 7-6. Wil Myers stuck the nail in the coffin with a two-run shot in the fifth, and two batters later a Yangervis Solarte double chased Nate from the game.
The ninth inning was fun — the Yankees scored four runs with an A-Rod single, Gregorius double, Hicks groundout, and Maurer wild pitch — but ultimately the Yankees would lose this one. Rodriguez was one run away from playing third base.
The Play: Norris doubles home two (+.164 WPA)
Eovaldi could have escaped the inning with just one run charged to his name.
Notes
– Carlos Beltran tested out his hamstring before the game, and didn’t start. He appears to be fine, though, doubling in the ninth and not requiring a pinch-runner
– Rodriguez pinch-hit and tied Dave Winfield for 19th on the all-time hit list with 3,110.
– Brian McCann, who is dealing with some tendinitis, homered again.
