NEW YORK — Moves, moves, moves. The Yankees announced a slew of roster moves before Saturday’s game, optioning Gary Sanchez to Triple-A after just one game in the big leagues, and calling up two pitchers in Chad Green and Conor Mullee.
The Sanchez move was one the Yankees didn’t hope to make. Brian Cashman said on Saturday morning that Sanchez was expected to DH against lefthander Jose Quintana, but Severino’s injury and Goody’s subsequent 3 1/3-inning outing forced the team’s hand. “All hell broke loose on the roster,” Cashman said.
Luis Severino
Severino was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday night after leaving with a mild right triceps strain, and spoke to reporters Saturday. He said he first felt soreness in the second inning, and wouldn’t have told Joe Girardi about it had he not come out to the mound. Right now, he’s not feeling much pain, and he said he hasn’t felt pain all year.
While speculation was that Severino may have been feeling discomfort all season long, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“His stuff’s not there, bottom line. His arm strength is there,” Cashman said pregame. “It’s not health related.”
Severino will go five-to-seven days without picking up a baseball, then head out on a rehab assignment. As for if he still has a spot in the rotation when he’s healthy?
“We’ll have to wait and see,” Cashman said.
A-Rod
First, the serious news — Alex Rodriguez did some jogging in the outfield, and has been doing tee work, soft toss, and hitting in the cage. He’s not sure yet when live batting practice will come, but it will come soon enough.
It’s also A-Rod replica bat day, and he spent some time greeting fans and handing out bats at Gate 2.

Other moves
The Yankees transferred Greg Bird and Brian Mitchell to the 60-day DL, and traded for 26-year-old reliever J.R. Graham from Minnesota. In his only appearance this year, he allowed 2 ER in 1.2 IP.
