It’s no secret that Alex Rodriguez is slumping. The Yankees’ 40-year-old designated hitter entered Sunday with just three hits in 30 at-bats, and was dropped from third to sixth in the order as a result.
“Sometimes moving a guy will help them relax a little bit,” manager Joe Girardi told reporters before the game. “Not that I think Alex needs to relax, but sometimes just shaking up a lineup once in a while can help a little bit.”
A-Rod not only looked relaxed on Sunday, he looked like he was lying shirtless on a hammock with a hand-rolled Cuban cigar between his lips. Check out this two-run shot to left in the second off Hisashi Iwakuma.
The ball traveled 107 mph off A-Rod’s bat, and got out in a hurry at a launch angle of just 25 degrees. It was Rodriguez’s first hit in 19 ABs, dating back to his solo shot off Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey on April 9.
