Random thoughts after a pleasantly surprising late night, west coast victory

If you stayed up for Friday’s night game against the Angels, you were rewarded with a late-inning Yankee win thanks to none other than Didi Gregorius who is having an April to remember.

So before tonight’s late start, I figured I’d fire off some random thoughts about Friday’s win, the current seven-game winning streak and what lies ahead for the Yankees after this series with the Angels comes to a close.

  • How about that win last night?
  • I honestly didn’t think they’d pull it off.
  • Not because I don’t think the Yankee can beat the Angels, it’s that damn ballpark.
  • I still have PTSD from past playoff series.
  • Didi Gregorius is having quite a month.
  • He’s tied with Mike Trout for the lead in home runs.
  • Who saw that coming?
  • Last night’s home plate umpire, Alan Porter, had a large strike zone.
  • So large he aided pitchers on both teams.
  • Poor Aaron Judge. That strike zone screwed him a few times last night.
  • Shohei Ohtani showed off his power last night by smacking a home run against Severino.
  • It was an inside fastball that he hit with ease. It was quite a site.
  • Annoying though.
  • Let’s talk about the Twins series.
  • Wow.
  • The poor Twins, huh?
  • I have no idea what is happening with them or why they can’t beat the Yankees.
  • And it doesn’t matter who is on the team.
  • This has been happening since 2002.
  • And on Thursday, they thought they could eek out a win and then Fernando Rodney happened.
  • Actually, that’s not true.
  • Rodney threw a good pitch. Gary Sanchez just turned on it and hit it out.
  • It happens.
  • And it was incredible.
  • So the Yankees, who were out of the Division race last week, are now only 2 1/2 games behind the Red Sox.
  • Isn’t baseball great?
  • What’s also great is that the Yankees still aren’t clicking on all cylinders.
  • Can you imagine?
  • They have the potential to be even better than they have been during this seven-game winning streak.
  • The rest of the American League should be worried.
  • After the Yankees play the Angels they head to Houston.
  • Ugh.
  • That horn.
  • Can we prevent that horn from going off?
  • Please?
  • I hate it.
  • And it’s a four-game series which is awful.
  • I hate those.
  • After Houston, they play the Indians and Red Sox.
  • This is a tough stretch.
  • Let’s hope they continue to play well.
  • I think they should.
  • Houston isn’t beating up on everyone.
  • They can be beaten.
  • So can the Indians.
  • So can the Red Sox.
  • Everyone can be beaten!
  • Speaking of that, Joe Kelly was whining about his five-game suspension not being cut down.
  • You threw a ball at someone, dude.
  • Wah.
  • Be more unlikeable.
  • I would imagine that if/when he comes out of the bullpen during the series at YankeeStadium he will be greeted by an onslaught of vociferous boos.
  • He deserves them.
  • Tyler Austin’s slide wasn’t great but it wasn’t a “lets a throw a ball at him” to show him we didn’t appreciate it slide.
  • The Sox are just reacting like that because of what Manny Machado did to Pedroia last season.
  • Boys will be boys!
  • I guess.
  • Anyway, I’m not thrilled about tonight’s game being at 9 pm. I was hoping it would be earlier.
  • I was nodding off last night.
  • Until the ninth inning.
  • Miguel Andujar woke me up.
  • Hasn’t he been great?
  • What a swing.
  • What bat speed.
  • And I like Gleyber Torres’ defense.
  • He’s having better at-bats too.
  • You should be excited about the future.
  • I am.
  • It will be a lot of fun.
  • Let’s go Yanks.
