Random Thoughts before the Blue Jays series

You all know the drill by now so I’m jumping right in.

  • I am not the type to panic in April.
  • But I am the type to get pissed off in April.
  • Tuesday night was a shitshow of epic proportions and the Yankees should be embarrassed.
  • I’m sick of the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing they have going right now.
  • I want consistency.
  • I want them to rattle off three wins in a row.
  • I want to be relaxed watching them play.
  • I want them to beat the teams they’re supposed to beat and not be humiliated by them at home.
  • I was yelling at my TV on Tuesday night.
  • I shouldn’t be doing that in April.
  • Let’s break up the thoughts that begin with I, shall we?
  • Giancarlo Stanton needs to look at film or video or whatever they study and figure stuff out.
  • I know he’s a slow starter but he’s making dumb mistakes at the plate.
  • Like swinging at a 2-0 pitch when the pitcher walked the previous two batters.
  • WHY???
  • Don’t do that.
  • My God.
  • I know he’ll snap out of it eventually and I know the Yankees will start playing better.
  • They have to.
  • They’re not this bad no matter what people say.
  • I was cursing up a storm on Tuesday much to the delight of my family who finds it amusing when I get angry at baseball games because I always seem to find new and inventive ways of using curse words.
  • If my dad were still alive, I wouldn’t be able to do it.
  • He’d yell at me.
  • I sometimes wonder what he would think about the current Yankees and imagine the fights we’d be getting into about Gary Sanchez’s catching.
  • I can picture heated arguments.
  • As much as I loved my dad we didn’t agree on a lot of things. Sure, we shared a love of baseball but he was old school and I am new school. Although he was beginning to understand sabermetrics before he passed away and even made it a point to watch Clubhouse Confidential on MLB Network.
  • I think he would have enjoyed the Yankees’ improbable playoff run last year while also getting pissed off at their inability to hit in Houston.
  • My dad would wave his hand dismissively at the TV if he didn’t like something. I could picture him using both hands during Game 7.
  • Oh! It’s time for Baseball Prospectus’ Ballpark Events again!
  • This year’s events will be happening in Chase Field in Arizona, Safeco Field in Seattle, Citifield, Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and Target Field in Minnesota! You can find all of the info here.
  • I was part of last year’s event at Citifield and it was a lot of fun. Sandy Alderson is very candid.
  • I wish the Yankees would do an event but I guess that’s too much to ask.
  • *grumble*
  • It doesn’t look too good for me this year. I don’t think I’m making the event at Citifield. It’s bad timing.
  • Oh well.
  • I was shy at last year’s event. I didn’t want to tell anyone that I was a Yankees fan. I didn’t want to be booed by the gathered crowd of Mets fans.
  • I didn’t know how that would go over.
  • And when they did hand me the mic and I spoke about writing, I was a nervous wreck.
  • But even if you are a Yankee fan, you should try and make this event. It’s pretty cool.
  • Or, if you live in any of the places listed above, you should go to those events!
  • Back to the Yankees.
  • If you missed this yesterday, make sure you watch it.
  • If you didn’t watch it, it’s an anti-bullying PSA.
  • Cassidy is being bullied and the Yankee players let her know that they have her back.
  • I was verklempt after I watched it.
  • Some people dismiss social media but the Yankees used it for a good cause yesterday.
  • So the Yankees are playing four games against Toronto.
  • How annoying.
  • I’d be happy with a split at this point.
  • They’re just so awful right now.
  • Yes, I know they won a game 12-1 the other night but it was the Marlins and the Marlins came back and beat them 9-1 the next night.
  • Again, embarrassing.
  • The Marlins are an AAAA team.
  • The Yankees should beat them handily.
  • It should have been a two-game sweep but Masahiro Tanaka had to ruin it.
  • And the anemic offense who was no-hit for most of the game.
  • Yikes.
  • Watch them lose three out of four to Toronto.
  • No.
  • I will not be negative.
  • It will be a split.
  • Maybe.
  • Hopefully?
  • Let’s go Yankees.

We got more than a split! A series win!

Some of your comments look prophetic after the dismantling of the Twins last night. Hope that’s the real Yankees.
