Random thoughts before the home opener

Thanks to a somewhat rare April snowstorm, the Yankees’ home opener against Tampa was postponed on Monday and moved to Tuesday. Unfortunately, Tuesday’s forecast doesn’t look much better. Those pesky April showers you learned about as a kid are threatening the rescheduled home opener from being played as well.

So, before the game is (hopefully) played today, I figured I would share some random thoughts about this past weekend and maybe about today. Let’s go:

  • This weekend was not fun for Yankee fans.
  • Sure, Thursday and Friday were great but Saturday and Sunday were nightmares.
  • The Yankees’ vaunted bullpen blew it both times.
  • Sunday’s loss was worse than Saturday’s loss.
  • Definitely.
  • I don’t even want to rehash it here.
  • I want to forget about it.
  • Now we have the home opener to look forward to.
  • Maybe.
  • The forecast really doesn’t look good. There’s a lot of rain out there.
  • I’m not sure what they could do if the game is postponed again.
  • It was only a two-game series.
  • Would they do a doubleheader at some point?
  • At least everyone would be well-rested!
  • Aaron Judge is starting off a little slowly.
  • So is Gary Sanchez.
  • Don’t panic.
  • I’m not.
  • It’s way too early to panic.
  • At least the starter pitchers are doing okay.
  • Although Sony Gray had some issues. He couldn’t get past the fifth inning.
  • He can’t do that all season.
  • The bullpen can’t be taxed by July.
  • That would be a bad thing.
  • Another bad thing? The injuries that are piling up.
  • What the heck is happening?
  • Everyone was joking about how the Yankees had too many outfielders and now they don’t have enough.
  • Jeez.
  • Louise.
  • One of the funniest things that happened over the weekend was getting a tweet from a straight male Yankee fan who brought up how hot Brandon Drury was. And not hot as in hitting, hot as in handsome.
  • I hadn’t been paying attention so I checked and he’s right. Drury is low key hot. That’s young people lingo.
  • Back to baseball, Drury was a good pick up by the Yankees.

Oh boy.

  • Well. that doesn’t look good.
  • If you’re heading out to the Stadium later, bring a poncho.
  • And a hoodie.
  • Cold and damp is a bad combination.
  • I sound like a mom.
  • Oh, so I was wrong about who would hit the first Yankee home run of the year.
  • Of course, it would be Stanton. How silly of me.
  • Those home runs were something, weren’t they?
  • Amazing.
  • I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of them this season.
  • I can’t wait for his first Yankee Stadium home run.
  • I would implore anyone sitting in the right-centerfield seats to box out Zack Hample.
  • Please.
  • He doesn’t deserve Stanton’s first Yankee Stadium.
  • Do whatever you can to prevent him from getting that ball.
  • Maybe Stanton can prevent him from getting the ball by hitting it into the second deck!
  • That would be nice.
  • How about we guess where his first Yankee Stadium home run goes?
  • I’ll guess that it hits the facing of the restaurant in centerfield and just misses the seats above it.
  • This should be a fun game.
  • Watch him pull the ball and hit it to left.
  • And where will Aaron Judge’s first Yankee Stadium home run land?
  • I’ll guess left-center.
  • It’s a safe choice.
  • Another safe choice is guessing that Brett Gardner will hit his first home run to right.
  • And Didi going to right-center.
  • How about Gary Sanchez? Hmmmm.
  • I’ll say left-center. He won’t pull it too much.
  • That’s what she said.
  • And on that note, I’ll end this.
  • Let’s go Yankees!
