Report: Yankees, Chris Carter Agree to One-Year Deal

The Yankees have agreed to terms with 1B/DH Chris Carter on one-year contract worth $3 million dollars, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Carter somewhat quietly led the National League with 41 home runs last season, though his .222 average and league-leading 206 strikeouts in 2016 explain why he was still available in February.

Whether you like the deal or not, the Yankees have added significant power to their roster at a relatively cheap price. How Carter’s addition impacts Greg Bird, Tyler Austin, and Matt Holliday—who are all 1B/DH types—is now an intriguing question heading into Spring Training.

Look for Tyler Austin and a lesser minor leaguer to become trade bait for a starting pitcher.
