If you are not a Cubs fan, you might be tired of hearing about them winning the World Series. We have you covered. We are not hear to argue over whether curses are real or not. We are here to provide you with an update on how the New York Yankee prospects are performing in the AFL. You are welcome.
Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar represented the New York Yankees in the AFL all-star game that took place this past Saturday. It was a night to forget for the pair as they combined to go 0 for 7 with 4 Ks and 1 walk. In his other three games this past week, Andujar managed just two hits, but improved his strikeout-to-walk ratio to an impressive 9:5 through 14 games. His .429 OBP ranks 5th among AFL batters. Not to be outdone, Torres improved his strikeout-to-walk ratio to 11:5. His OBP rose to .451, which ranks 3rd in the AFL.
Meanwhile, Greg Bird continued to struggle and has now struck-out 13 times while posting a .204 BA in 14 games. Tyler Wade, on the other hand, had a solid week, adding a couple hits, walks, and and stolen bases to his resume.
On the pitching side, Yankees former 1st round draft pick, James Kaprielian, had a promising performance, allowing only one run in five innings (his longest outing of the season). He also managed to record his first win and lowered his ERA to 3.93. Kaprielian, who missed most of the 2016 season due to injury, appears to finally be close to full health. Dillon Tate, another promising pitcher the Yankees sent to the AFL, did not pitch this week.
With about two weeks left in the season, these prospects will look to continue to improve in preparation for the 2017 season.
