The more often a pitcher throws a pitch, usually the less effective it becomes, which makes pitches like Kenley Jansen’s cutter or Zach Britton’s sinker the exceptions. I actually did address it in the article, and I acknowledged that we obviously wouldn’t see the same results if it became more of his go-to pitch, but his results have been so phenomenal with it this season that he still might see an uptick in performance even with slightly worse results on the change.

Perhaps it’s most effective when he’s behind in the count and the hitter is expecting a FB. That could limit how often he throws it.
