Carlos Beltran, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller named to 2016 AL All-Star Game roster

The 2016 MLB All-Star Game rosters were revealed to the world on Tuesday evening. While the number of New York Yankees elections to the game set to take place in San Diego next Tuesday, July 12, at PETCO Park isn’t as large as some fans have grown accustomed to, the pinstripes will still have a pretty powerful presence at the Midsummer Classic.

Highlighting the selections, three of them to be exact, is the dynamic duo of Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. Betances and Miller have arguably been the two best relief pitchers in Major League Baseball and via Baseball Prospectus, rank near the top in DRA with marks of 1.69 and 1.72 respectively. Both relievers have a strikeouts per nine innings rate of over 16 (!), so it’s incredibly difficult to disagree with their elections to the team. They will join fellow AL hurlers Zach Britton, Kelvin Herrera, Craig Kimbrel, Danny Salazar, Cole Hamels and Chris Sale among others.

The lone position player elected from the Bombers is Carlos Beltran. Beltran, 39 years young, is having a brilliant campaign this year. His .296 average entering Tuesday is the highest since 2013 and his SLG of .567 is the highest mark he’s had since all the way back in 2006 in his second year with the crosstown Mets. He joins Mark Trumbo of the Baltimore Orioles and Ian Desmond of the Texas Rangers as the AL outfield reserves.

Elsewhere, former Yankee infielders Robinson Cano and Eduardo Nunez were also chosen to represent the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins in the All-Star Game.
