Berkman earned 3.6 WAR after being traded, while Melancon + Paredes came out to 5.2. I would have included that if I had gone two more years back, and it’s an interesting example. He’s not perfect, as I had said, but the track record is still overwhelmingly in his favor.

I don’t know what the post-trade WAR figures are, but they must be pretty unfavorable for the Yanks.
